A Guide to Nylon Stockings

2 min read

Nylon stockings (such as these) are made from the finest modern day yarns using traditional methods to perfectly replicate the look and feel of vintage nylons, therefore they fit and feel different on the leg.

When you purchase them for the first time it may take a while to find the right fit as some brands are measured in height, others in foot size. They are what we call volumetrically sized, so the apparent length on their own bears minimal relation to their length on your leg. Each brand fits and feels different, therefore in time you will find the right pair for you. When you do, you won't want to wear anything else.

Caring for your stockings is very important. I would recommend wearing hosiery gloves when putting them on to avoid snagging them. If your stockings have seams (like these) then start at the ankle and straighten as you pull them up the calf and over the thigh, when in place attach the back suspender strap to the top of the seam to keep them straight. I find metal clasps on the suspender belts are the best, as they hold stockings in place all day long.

When it comes to the laundry, never wash in the washing machine, always wash by hand in lukewarm soapy water (if possible, in a laundry bag), then rinse well. Always dry naturally, never in the tumble dryer or on a radiator, as this will cause the nylon fibres to become brittle.

Whatever choice you make I am sure that you will love wearing them. They definitely make heads turn and make you feel wonderfully glamorous.
